Project Manager- Technology

Department: Architectural Services-Division- 25
Location: Torrance, CA

Job Summary

Works collectively with Vice President of Architecture and Facility Services, Director of Facility Services, and Project Managers, to provide support for a wide range of technical systems, software, and hardware, associated with execution of field surveys and project deliverables and client delivery methods. Leads efforts to continue to implement the most efficient methods of point cloud scanning and Scan to Cad and Scan to BIM processes. Evaluates new technologies for ROI and effectiveness.

Provides appropriate level of training and best practices for technical issues to surveyors, office team, and colleagues. Assists in evaluating customer project needs and implementing appropriate processes and technologies and offer solutions that will allow production of a high-quality client deliverables.

Participates in overall strategy, design, and architecture geared towards the division’s growth on technology.

 

Essential Duties

Works with Project Managers and Director to identify an implementation plan and establish work priorities for development of deliverables. Translates client’s requirements into workable solutions; evaluates alternatives to develop specific solutions; and maintains technical quality control and assurance.

  1. Works with Vice President and Director to propose and evaluate new technology options related to Point Cloud Scanning and Scan to Cad and Scan to BIM processes.
  2. Under limited supervision, defines field survey/scanning/data processing problems by meeting with surveyors, project managers and QA project manager to observe and understand current processes and the issues related to those processes. Provides written documentation of findings to share with Director, VP of Architecture and Facility Services.
  3. Offers solutions and alternatives for field survey/scanning/data processing problems.
  1. Identifies equipment needs and processes required orders. Defines system and software requirements on scanning equipment. Documents requirements according to process and department guidelines.
  2. Establish and track equipment and software Budgets. Maintain warranty and repair logs, including monthly equipment usage report with Director of Facility Services

7. Responsible for the day-to-day management of all survey equipment. Ensure equipment is in operable condition and available for use as needed. Establish and manage an equipment tracking system which includes equipment releases and returns and repairs.

  1. Assist with preparations of scanning processes and execution plan for client specific projects.
  2. Assists with scoping projects and supports the team in developing proposals, specifically as it relates to the time to implement specific technologies in the field and related processing timeframes in the office.
  3. Responsible for division wide technical training of field surveyors and office team. Prepares, tests, and executes training on survey equipment and scanner software.
  4. Track, manage and report Key Performance Indicators of scanners and software processing. Maintains records to document phases to develop successful repeat outcomes. Applies learnings to future process development and training to ensure effective implementation of all department technologies.
  5. Develop a comprehensive field survey document and/or checklist of required processes that must be followed and completed in conjunction with scanning equipment and scan data processing.
  6. Develop training presentations and conduct training of surveyors, consultants, office team and others.
  7. Manages project and program budgets as it relates to technology and related processes. Ensure regular updates to the PM for each client program and identify any tasks that are not tracking per budget and provide appropriate solutions.
  8. Responsible for identification of communication and file exchange protocols with consultants and or surveyors.
  9. Provide feedback in the development of potential survey candidates.
  10. Implement changes by adhering to the department change management standards and procedures for any given project. Communicate in a timely manner to all parties the nature, significance, and risk factors of the change and solution.
  1. Monitors changes and resolves problems by responding as they occur, by reviewing all processes and output of the newly implemented solution, and by proactively ensuring the solution works successfully in order to satisfy the customer requirements.
  2. Document support processes and procedures by soliciting information from other outsourced technology support personnel in an effort to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of field scan technology support services.
  3. Provides training remotely and/or face-to-face on survey technology to enable the survey team to be as productive as possible with the technology resources available to them.
  4. Stays abreast of industry trends, attends seminars, and training. Identifies technological changes that could be beneficial to the division and potentially implemented. Develops cost analysis and ROI on new technology implementation.
  5. Present a professional image as a representative of the company.
  6. Supports the Divisions business development efforts through presenting the results of technologies we are implementing via video and other means.
  7. Presents new technologies and their capabilities to business development team and clients.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities 
* Must be proficient in AutoCAD and Revit programs

* Strong technical knowledge of the applicable surveying technologies (Laser2Cad, Point Cloud scanners, 3DVR units and their capabilities). Ability to respond to surveyors with technical support.

* Strong knowledge of Faro, Leica and other Point Cloud Scanners and associated processing software.

* Project management principles, and the ability to identify the appropriate techniques for each project

* Strong project management skills, production knowledge and a sense of ownership and responsibility for all of the products that are produced by the department. Understanding of phased-implementation approach, forecasting, requirement gathering, solution development, documentation and facilitation skills.

Education & Experience
Minimum of 7 years experience in Architectural/Pre Construction Services with a minimum of 2 years progressive Architectural Project Management experience

As-Built/Existing Conditions building survey experience required with a background functioning as a draftsmen supervisor.

Associates degree or equivalent required, Bachelor degree preferred


Work Environment
General office working environment with field support as necessary.

Travel is required to perform, supervise, and train others on field techniques and use of technology
